Mii... among other things and "Is Crochet a dying Art Form?" Hear my opinion, what's yours?

I will be talking about several different topics...I'll like to start with the reason I changed my profile picture. I am truly amazed with what you can do with technology these days. People who are techno-savvy may not share my enthusiasm. The other thing that knock my socks off, is when my eleven year old son took the profile picture from the wii (my mii) and put it on my computer. So right now it's on my blog, website (http://crowchet.moonfruit.com), email, twitter, and desktop. You maybe asking yourself why? Well, one reason my son did it for me and he was soo proud to be able to help me out, (for the price of a video game) and two, my Mii really resemble me. I say once again amazing, truly amazing. Thanks Son.

Second topic... I'm still working on the wheelchair bags for Veterans that are in need of them. I started with the patriotic colors (red, white, and blue), but, I'm not comfortable with the way it looks. I think the colors are too too bright and also, I want it to slide less along the bar of the wheelchair. So, I will try using colors of burgundy, regular white and loose the crayon blue for a somewhat darker blue, also shorten the straps for a tighter fit. Then I can hopefully have a picture to show soon. If it doesn't work with the patriotic colors then I'll use other colors instead. I found out that I do have some leeway. Thank you Troops/Veterans for your services.

Third topic...I've heard this saying quite a bit lately, "Crochet is a dying art form." then why have the price of yarn cost so much. I've seen the One Pound yarn as high as $8.00. Magazine cost can range from $5.00 to $10.99 or more. The other thing. is the new items that help make it easier for crocheters to crochet like; the light on the end of some needles to help with crocheting with darker yarns. the spandex glove for people like myself that have carpal tunnel in their hands. There are provisions being made all the time to make it easier for crocheters to improve on their craft. I don't believe crochet is a dying art form, just some people's understanding of it.

Last topic...I'm also annoyed that people assume that crochet should be cheep or just given away because I "can make another." They don't understand the time and money that I put into my craft. I love giving/donating crocheted items to people(for free), and see the appreciation in their faces when they receive them. Knowing that what I do can help some one in need like a blankets, hats, scarfs, gloves, and my favorite Prayer Shawls adds meaning to my life.  But don't ask of me what you wouldn't ask of your doctor, a bill collector and others that require payment for what they do. "Will you provide your services for free.?"

Aliens ARE COMING

The Aliens are invading! It starts with one and with crocheting they will soon be in your area. "Fleshy the Alien's antennae and first circles of his hands glows in the dark. I crocheted this Alien just for fun and soon he will have ships, planets and friends like you.

Christmas in July

Christmas in July, I'm crocheting snowmen in time for the gift giving season. I have several other projects that I would like to have completed before the holidays, and now is the time to start. The holidays are a busy time for me; trying to fill orders, staying consistant in  my volunteering, and having time for family. I would like to get feed back from pictures that I post so, I can make the products we sell better, and when you give a special gift that is from your heart, it will last for generations to come, as family heirlooms.

Crocheted Wheelchair Bags are needed

I had an appointment at the Veteran Hospital, the other day. While waiting a volunteer came around with a cart of stuff to give to veterans in appreciation of their service in the military.  I received a craft wallet that you string together, flags to place on a desk, (american, p.o.w, and a proud veteran never forgets) also a christian CD. I told the woman thank you and asked how could I volunteer? I told her that I crocheted and is there something that I could do to help? I was informed that they were in need of Wheelchair bags to be given to Military/veteran hospice patient,  also blankets, hats, scarfs and gloves, in patriotic colors, I thought to myself, I can do that! I got more information and the address to send the items, Durham VA Medical Center, Attention Voluntary Service (135), 508 Fulton Street, Durham, NC 27705 because I live in North Carolina or you can go to the website: http://soldiersangels.org if you would like to help soldiers/veterans in need. Also Soldiers'  Angels except cash donation and,  help in sending care packages. There is a great need for our soldiers and veterans and crochet is a great way for me to help. Hope you will be encouraged to use your skills in crocheting to help others. I've heard  people say that  crocheting/knitting is a dying art form. I say it's an artistic form that is dying to help its community, family, and friends and there nothing old about that.

Men who crochet?

It is good to see more men crocheting these days. Years ago when I started crocheting I couldn't recall seeing a man crocheting let alone admitting to have ever crocheted. As a woman it is hard to make a crocheted gift for men (other than sweaters and hats). Now that I see more men crocheting, I can get an idea of what their intrests are ( other than women and cars). I see some guys crocheting for their pets, things to use for the outdoors and tech savvy men are crocheting covers for their eletronics toys.(cell phones, lap tops, nook, etc). Way to go guys! keep it up!! I'm on the verge of being able to understand you better now that we have something in common.
