Mii... among other things and "Is Crochet a dying Art Form?" Hear my opinion, what's yours?

I will be talking about several different topics...I'll like to start with the reason I changed my profile picture. I am truly amazed with what you can do with technology these days. People who are techno-savvy may not share my enthusiasm. The other thing that knock my socks off, is when my eleven year old son took the profile picture from the wii (my mii) and put it on my computer. So right now it's on my blog, website (http://crowchet.moonfruit.com), email, twitter, and desktop. You maybe asking yourself why? Well, one reason my son did it for me and he was soo proud to be able to help me out, (for the price of a video game) and two, my Mii really resemble me. I say once again amazing, truly amazing. Thanks Son.

Second topic... I'm still working on the wheelchair bags for Veterans that are in need of them. I started with the patriotic colors (red, white, and blue), but, I'm not comfortable with the way it looks. I think the colors are too too bright and also, I want it to slide less along the bar of the wheelchair. So, I will try using colors of burgundy, regular white and loose the crayon blue for a somewhat darker blue, also shorten the straps for a tighter fit. Then I can hopefully have a picture to show soon. If it doesn't work with the patriotic colors then I'll use other colors instead. I found out that I do have some leeway. Thank you Troops/Veterans for your services.

Third topic...I've heard this saying quite a bit lately, "Crochet is a dying art form." then why have the price of yarn cost so much. I've seen the One Pound yarn as high as $8.00. Magazine cost can range from $5.00 to $10.99 or more. The other thing. is the new items that help make it easier for crocheters to crochet like; the light on the end of some needles to help with crocheting with darker yarns. the spandex glove for people like myself that have carpal tunnel in their hands. There are provisions being made all the time to make it easier for crocheters to improve on their craft. I don't believe crochet is a dying art form, just some people's understanding of it.

Last topic...I'm also annoyed that people assume that crochet should be cheep or just given away because I "can make another." They don't understand the time and money that I put into my craft. I love giving/donating crocheted items to people(for free), and see the appreciation in their faces when they receive them. Knowing that what I do can help some one in need like a blankets, hats, scarfs, gloves, and my favorite Prayer Shawls adds meaning to my life.  But don't ask of me what you wouldn't ask of your doctor, a bill collector and others that require payment for what they do. "Will you provide your services for free.?"
